The Team

Hi! We are Shy Penguin Studios, a small group of friends working together to bring our indie card game to life. With just a few of us juggling everything from design and coding to art and storytelling, this project is truly a labour of passion.

A Recipe for Survival is our very first project and we’re learning as we go, pouring our hearts into every card and mechanic. It’s a bit messy at times, but we’re having a lot of fun along the way, and we’re so excited to share this journey with you.

Thank you for your support—it means the world to us. We hope you’ll enjoy playing our game!

Meet the Team!

Mascot

Pebbles
Pebbles or Pebi is our adorable little mascot! He can be found playing games, cooking and generally enjoying himself! He is a little shy, but give him a chance and he will share his games with you!

Project Managers

Robert
Shy Penguin is a dream opportunity for me, being able to contribute to this project and work with this amazing team I could not be more proud. As Project Manager my role is to pull the team together ensure the game is built to the amazing standards you deserve as players!

Molly
I’m taking the lead on our social media accounts, whilst also getting involved in other aspects of game development! It’s such a great project to be a part of where on any day I could be developing character moves to designing social media posts! I get to stretch both my creative artistic side and my logical brain as well!

Lead Artist

Annie
I’m Annie, and I create the concepts, characters, environments and assets for our game. Art has been a constant companion throughout my life, and I’ve always tried to find new ways to be creative. I’m really happy to be part of the team and to contribute to the project!

Lead Coder

Josh
I’m the lead programmer, and it’s my job to get the game working, and feeling great for you to play! My favourite part of development is creating all of the cards and enemies in-game, and seeing how they all work together once they’re done! I’m always excited to see new card effects working in game!

Lead Writer

Alex
Shy Penguin struck me as an amazing opportunity to teach players in a fun and engaging manner about folklore from various cultures around the world. As the Narrative Lead I oversee the story aspect of our games and work closely with our Art division in creating a beautiful and engaging game-world, that you as a player can jump right into!

Animators

Louise
I’m a Unity 2D rigger and animator, building bones and making moves for the characters! My favourite part of the game so far are the creepily awesome designs for the monsters! And how diverse each one is from around the world. It’s a pleasure to make them move in their own unique way.

Karena
I’m a 2D character rigger and animator. My favourite aspect of game development is animation for sure! I love the concept of giving life to art forms and the process of creating the tools (rigs) to do so.

Lead Musician

Aidan
For the better part of seven years, I’ve been interested in music and composition. Music is an integral part in all forms of media. Having the opportunity to work with the team and create music to inspire more musicians is a dream come true.

Musician

Sam Gascoigne
Having the chance to help out such an amazing team on their debut game is a phenomenal opportunity and I can’t thank everyone at Shy Penguin enough for having me. My role as one of the musicians of the team is to create the soundtrack that ties the game together, reflecting the moods and atmosphere to enhance the experience all our players deserve.

Staff

Mercury
I’ve been assisting this project in any way I can, whether that involves coming up with card names, random suggestions I have, or even working on this website! It’s been amazing to work on my first project after finishing my degree, especially with so many lovely people.
